INEC Fixes New Date For Rescheduled Election In Rivers

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has rescheduled elections for April 18, Saturday in Rivers state.
The rescheduled elections are for areas in the state where voting did not take place on 11th of April, last Saturday.
This announcement by the Rivers State resident electoral commissioner, Gesila Khan, was contained in a statement distributed through SMS by the information officer of the INEC in Rivers state, Daily Post reports.
According to the resident electoral commissioner, the elections will be held in all the wards in Emohua local government area. They will also be held in wards 1, 2, 7, 9, 10 and 11 in Opobo-Nkoro local government area.

He mentioned other wards to include; 1, 2, 3, 4, 11, 12e and 13 in Ahoada-East Constituency One; as well as wards 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 in Ahoada-East Constituency Two.

Others wards where the election has been rescheduled are, 10, 12, 17, 18 and 19 in Etche Constituency 1, as well as wards 1, 7, 8, 13 and 15 in Etche Constituency 2.

The out-going governor of Rivers state, Rotimi Amaechi, has criticised the outcome of the elections in the state. After casting his vote at his polling unit, Ward 8, Unit 14, Ubima in Ikwerre local government area of Rivers state, Gov Amaechi had described the April 11 governorship and House of Assembly elections election as a sham.

Meanwhile, reacting to a call by the minister of state II for foreign affairs, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, that he and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers state should concede defeat and congratulate the winner of the election, Nyesom Wike, in the interests of the state, Amaechi had described the election as daylight robbery and a disgrace to democracy.

INEC has also fixed April 18 for the run-off governorship elections in Imo and Abia where last Saturday’s elections were declared inconclusive.
