Service Chiefs Meet Over Transition

President Goodluck Jonathan had a crucial meeting with the service chiefs yesterday, April 16, to discuss the handing over power to the president elect, Muhammadu Buhari.
According to The Nation, the security chiefs were led to the closed-door National Security Council meeting by the National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (rtd).

In the meeting which was their first after the general elections, the Security Council and President Jonathan also talked about the ongoing offensive against Boko Haram in the North Eastern region.

Present at the meeting with the president were Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh; Chief of Army Staff Lt.-Gen. Kenneth Minimah; Chief of Naval Staff Vice Admiral Usman Jibrin; Chief of Air Staff Air Marshal Adesola Amosu and Inspector General of Police Suleiman Abba.

It was gathered that the meeting was called to provide the president with briefs and strategies on adequate security during the ceremonial inauguration of the new president on May 29.
In this respect, the service chiefs alongside other heads of Ministries, Department and Agencies were mandated to turn in their handover notes before April 20 to ensure the early preparation of his handover note.

None of the Service Chiefs agreed to speak with journalists after the meeting.
Meanwhile, Lagos-based lawyer and human rights activist, Femi Falana, yesterday, April 16,  criticized the decision of Goodluck Jonathan to formally handover to president-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, on May 28, 2015.

Fallana was reacting to an announcement made by the Minister of Information, Senator Patricia Akwashiki on Wednesday April 15, that President Goodluck Jonathan will formally hand over power to Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), on May 28, about 24 hours before Buhari’s inauguration.
