Obiano thanks Ndi Anambra, rallies support for APGA
Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie ObiĀano, has expressed his profound gratitude to Ndi Anambra for the massive support they gave to the All ProgresĀsives Grand Alliance (APGA) in last SaturĀdayās House of AssemĀbly elections, which led to a clean sweep of 26 of the 30 constituency seats in the legislative chamber of Anambra State.
Delivering a stateĀwide broadcast entitled: Ndi Anambra, Dalu nu!, Governor Obiano lauded the people for demonĀstrating a powerful reĀsolve to join hands with one another to lay the foundation for a prosperĀous Anambra State.
According to him, in voting massively for APGA, Ndi Anambra ārose as one people to affirm the words of the Anambra Anthem which say that āā¦ In togetherĀness, we will build a land of progressā.ā
He thanked them for casting their votes in faĀvour of the 30 candidates that stood election on the platform of APGA.
Quoting Eric Hofer, American writer and thinker, who once obĀserved that āthe only way to predict the fuĀture is to have the power to shape it,ā Governor Obiano observed that āin voting massively for APGA in last Saturdayās election, you have graĀciously handed to me and Nkem Okeke, the power to shape the future of Anambra State. You have massively renewed, re-invigorated and re-valiĀdated the sacred mandate you gave to us to build a better state for youā¦and we shall not fail you. Ndi Anambra we shall not let you down! Ndi bāanyi, oga adili unu mma o!ā
Governor Obiano, however, took a swipe at some key Peoples DemĀocratic Party (PDP) figĀures in the state, who he accused of manipulating the results of the NationĀal Assembly election in the state, which he said was won by APGA.
He said:
āThe voting patterns and the overall results have shown that APGA actually swept all the three senatorial seats in the state but the outĀcome was manipulated to give temporary victory to PDP. And today, I say to those who are gloating over their stolen manĀdates ā ādonāt rejoice for too long, because this injustice shall not stand!ā
āNdi Anambra, we have resolved that those, who rob us in the dead of the night shall not have the liberty to enjoy their spoils in the light of day. We have assemĀbled a mountain of eviĀdence to deny them that un-merited happiness. Ndi Anambra, we shall re-possess those stolen mandates!ā
The governor further observed that the PDP figures had made a simiĀlar attempt to thwart the will of the people in the House of Assembly elecĀtions but failed woefully. He, therefore, urged the people to turn out as usual and cast their votes in the elections re-scheduled in four conĀstituencies on Saturday this week in Ekwusigo, Anaocha 1 and 2 and Aguata 1.
On the re-scheduled election, governor ObiaĀno assured that he would do anything within his power to ensure a free, fair and peaceful elecĀtion, urging the people to ārise to the challenge of ensuring that the conĀstitutional rights of our people to decide who should represent them in the legislative assembly is not tampered with.ā
He said:
āTo my good people of Ekwusigo, Anaocha and Aguata, I assure you that I will do everything humanly possible to ensure that the candidates of your choice emerge victorious on Saturday. Although I have no doubt that our great party, APGA, will sweep the four seats in contention, I wish to asĀsure Ndi Anambra as the chief security officer of this great state, that the contest will be free, fair and peaceful.
I have the assurances of INEC and all the serĀvice commanders in this state that the process will be free of the challenges that led to the cancellaĀtion of the exercise last weekend.ā
Concluding his adĀdress, Governor Obiano quoted Werner Erhard, arguing that,
āwe creĀate our future from our future, not our past.ā I urge all the people of Ekwusigo, Anaocha and Aguata to play a role in creating a brighter future for yourselves by voting for the four APGA canĀdidates standing election this Saturday.ā
