Will Young, Jason Derulo Lead U.K. Sales Charts

British pop vocalist Will Young scored his fourth No. 1 album on the U.K. charts last night (May 31) with 85% Proof (Universal Island). Jason Derulo also has his fourth chart-topper in the market, but on the singles survey, after “Want To Want Me” (Warner Bros.) entered at the top.
Young, now 36, won the TV talent series Pop Idol in 2002 and had his first U.K. No. 1 that year with From Now On. He also hit the top with Friday’s Child the next year and Echoes in 2011.

British rock band the Vaccines arrived at No. 2 with their third Columbia/Sony album English Graffiti, three years after Come Of Age became their first No. 1. Taylor Swift’s 1989 (EMI/Universal) edged 4-3, changing places with Mumford & Sons’ Wilder Mind (Gentlemen of the Road/Universal Island).

Sam Smith’s In The Lonely Hour (Capitol/Universal) held at No. 5, as last week’s new entry at No. 1, Brandon Flowers’ The Desired Effect (EMI/Universal), fell to No. 6. A$AP Rocky entered at No. 10 with At.Long.Last.ASAP (ASAP Worldwide/Polo/RCA/Sony Music). Now That’s What I Call Music 90 (Sony Music CG/Virgin EMI/Universal) is now in its ninth week at No. 1 on the compilation chart.

Derulo’s new No. 1 had a combined chart sale of 127,000 last week, according to the Official Charts Company. It follows his previous U.K. No. 1s “In My Head” (2010), the following year’s “Don’t Wanna Go Home” and 2013’s “Talk Dirty.” “Want To Want Me” finished the week 60,000 sales ahead of OMI’s Felix Jaehn remix of “Cheerleader” (Ultra), which fell to No. 2 after four weeks on top.

“Where Are U Now” (Atlantic/Warner) by Skrillex & Diplo featuring Justin Bieber climbed again, 5-3. There was a third top ten hit single for Dutch DJ Martin Garrix with “Don't Look Down” (Spinnin/RCA/Sony), featuring Usher.
