Since the launch of this platform I have been inundated by well meaning Nigerians to initiate an article on bleaching and its negative effects.
Skin bleaching is the ultimate sign that an individual suffers from inferiority complex. In my honest opinion,I have never come across any skin colour on a person that I would describe as negatively but I will tell you for fact that I meet negative and nasty people daily. It all comes down to applying natural remedies required for maintaining flawless skin quality. It is not and has never been about the colour of the skin but the quality of the skin that matters.I have lived most of my life amongst the Caucasians and I can attest to the fact that their colour isn`t better than ours and neither is ours better than theirs.

Toyin Lawani

Some people insinuate that she supplies all the facilities including Egyptian cream, injections/needles and salon for the purpose of bleaching.

Just what I heard o.NO BE ME TALK AM O.It is out there and everyone must have heard it by now so this is not news.

The quality of a person`s character is what defines a person and not the colour of a person`s skin.

The negative effects of skin bleaching ranging from the minor to more grievous ones are uncountable but I will mention just a few.If you are a member of the bleachers inc. Nigeria who have been too busy(you know hmmm, doing your normal aristo runs, winks.Yeah, I know man must wack and buy new hair) to google the negative effects of bleaching, don`t fret because I have taken my sometime to do that for you and here they are below.

  •     Dark grey spots
  •     Skin cancer
  •     Acne
  •     Swelling of the skin
  •     Thinning of the skin
  •     Cataracts
  •     Setting down of fat on face, chest, upper back and stomach
  •     Increase in appetite and weight gain
  •     Osteoporosis
  •     Neurological and kidney damage due to high level of mercury used in the creams
  •     Psychiatric disorders
  •     Severe birth defects
  •     Asthma
  •     Liver damage

Now, if these negative effects mentioned here aren`t scary enough to deter ladies from bleaching then I don`t know what else will be because these effects are quite scary, if you ask me.No man or anything is worth going through this risk.Besides,no real man needs a woman obsessed with bleaching in his life.

And,oh when you are bleaching,it becomes quite obvious to the rest of us so what is the point?

Please see below the members of the bleachers inc. Nigeria. That these ladies belong to bleachers Inc.Nigeria is not the ultimate indication that they are bleaching unless you reckon so but no be me talk am o

Again,I am not saying these ladies below are bleaching but if you say so,you are on your own cos me I go deny you when some of these girls` aristos come after you with a sledge hammer.

I must stress that I know for a fact that one of these ladies is in a committed relationship so she no send Aristos o.
At a recent Lenten season programme organised by the wife of Kwara State Governor, Mrs. Omolewa Ahmed, at the Government House, Dr. Nike Omotoyosi, a dermatologist at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, spoke extensively on “The Harmful Effects of Skin Bleaching”.  According to her, Nigeria has the highest number of people who indulge in skin bleaching. She attributed this to a number of factors including portrayal of white skinned women as beautiful by the media.
A  report published in 2013, by The World Health Organisation, also said 77 percent of women in Nigeria use skin-lightening products, the world’s highest percentage. The figure compares with 59 percent in Togo, and 27 percent in Senegal.
Read the full report of Dr. Nike Omotoyosi speech here.

Questions:

1. Agreed, many women in Nigeria use skin whitening products, but do you think 77% is near accurate?
2a. Is skin lightening the same as Skin bleaching?
2b. What is the difference, if any?

The Osun State Police Command yesterday said that a suspected kidnapper, Segun Akinwale, arrested last Thursday around Alekuwodo Area of Osogbo, Osun State capital has died.

Confirming the development to newsmen in Osogbo yesterday, the Police Public Relations Officer of the command, DSP Folasade Odoro, said the suspect gave up the ghost while receiving treatment, having been rescued by the police from a mob attack when he was caught. She said: “He was rescued and brought to the police but he gave up the ghost when receiving treatment.”
While warning residents against jungle justice, Odoro said anybody caught in acts capable of endangering peace of the state would be prosecuted.
Three suspected kidnappers were set ablaze at different locations between Thursday and Friday last week in Osogbo.
Some residents of the area where the suspect was caught claimed he was behaving like a mad man and that he had already kidnapped three children before he was apprehended.

Dangote Group has donated 12 trailer loads of relief materials worth N40m to the Benue State Government for distribution to Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs.
The materials, according to the group, are meant to support the ongoing effort of the state government to bring succour to the victims of the recent crisis that affected some parts of the state.
Speaking at the occasion for the formal handing over of the items to the displaced persons in Makurdi,

President and Chief Executive of the Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, said: “We have a very cordial relationship with our host communities in Benue, and it is only natural (that) we identify with them at a time like this. What has happened is unfortunate and we empathise with all the affected people.”
Dangote, who was represented by his Special Adviser, Mr. Joseph Makoju, said that it was unfortunate that the crisis happened, adding that the insurgency was diversionary to the government’s effort at bringing the dividends of democracy to the people of the state.
He said: “Governor Gabriel Suswam’s administration has done a lot to improve the well-being of the good people of Benue State through massive upgrade of infrastructure, empowerment of rural farmers and funding of the educational sector. The infrastructural development in Benue State has been significant and his love for his people is unparalleled.”
He said the relief materials was part of his company’s Corporate Social Responsibility, CSR, programme in the state that covers – health, education, women and youth empowerment and disaster relief.
He said in Gboko alone, the group has over the years built blocks of classrooms, constructed water boreholes and provide electricity in communities around the cement plant.
Dangote added that the company gives annual scholarship grants running into millions of naira to the Gboko community.
While thanking the donor, Governor Gabriel Suswam, who inspected the relief items, said he was overwhelmed by the donation.
He expressed the state’s appreciation, lauded the CSR activities of the group and urged other corporate bodies to emulate the deeds of the organisation by giving back to the society.

Personally I am against office romance but since we have to talk about it let’s get into it. Sometimes when you spend long hours with someone you tend to grow feelings for the person
The most common cliché is that of the boss with his secretary but there are many other examples of work-based relationships from the snog at the Christmas party to getting frisky in the supplies cupboard. Work-based relationships aren’t always superficial and it is almost inevitable that at some point in your career you will have a crush on someone at work. Here are some tips to help make sure you don’t end up wanting to resign if it doesn’t work out.

Do:
- Concentrate on building a good working relationship first – see how you cope with decision making, conflict etc. in the work environment
- Study them as a person – do they have qualities you admire or is it just a physical attraction
- Make sure the feeling is mutual – making a pass at someone who isn’t interested – at worst  it could lead to you being accused of intimate harassment or at best come across as a bit of an office sleaze and liable to being gossiped about
- Consider how the company would view a relationship between you two and reconsider if it could jeopardise either of your positions
- Remember a crush is just a crush and many of them will pass of their own accord if you don’t act on them
- Arrange to discuss any chance of a possible romance away from the office
- Play the tape forward and ask yourself how you will feel if it doesn’t work out or you get rejected
- Accept a no as a no and don’t push, persuade or try to cajole someone into changing their mind if they don’t feel the same way
- Try and maintain a professional standard in your work no matter how strong your feelings are – this will help avoid you getting into trouble with management
- Give things time to develop – if you have a crush that lasts longer than about three months then it may be that you are developing a deeper connection with someone
- Ask yourself if you want a partner who you share your whole life with? They could be with you for 8 hours a day at work and then again when you get home – are you the sort of person that would thrive on this or not?
- Be discreet and never discuss the details of your dates with other work colleagues

Don’t :
 - Go straight to a colleague with your feelings – talk it through with someone away from the situation first
- Drop hints, come on too heavy or make lewd remarks about someone’s appearance
- Conduct your relationship on company time
- Tell your other work mates if you ask someone out or if a colleague asks you on a date – don’t boast about your pulling power or make fun of someone else attempts
- Get involved with someone who is already in a relationship
- Flirt outrageously at work, it can be embarrassing for people around you both and will leave you feeling a bit red faced if nothing comes of it
- Have sex on the first date – or first few dates – it is harder to get out of a relationship with someone you work with as you can’t just not call them so you need to be absolutely sure you both want the relationship to continue before you get physical
- Use your  expense accounts for dates
- Use the company in-house email systems for personal correspondence
- Mistake a passion for a shared project as a passion for each other –  if you are working for long hours towards a shared goal it may seem that your colleague is the only person who understands you but that isn’t necessarily the basis for a lasting relationship – will you both be taking your work home with you?
