Youths from Ibeno Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State have protested a shoddy clean-up exercise of fresh oil spill from Mobil Producing Nigeria, MPN, at Qua Iboe Terminal.
A visit by our correspondent to the Terminal reveals that the spillage occurred on Sunday, April 19, at Mkpank, Ibeno beach, and has spread around its environs.
The protesters numbering over 2,000 blocked the entrance leading to QIT, Ibeno, and grounded activities of the oil company for two days.

Speaking, President of Ibeno Youths, Obong Friday Ebong, confirmed the oil spill, which occurred at Mkpanak community in Ibeno beach, and urged ExxonMobil to urgently clean up the spill, saying its hazardous effect was harmful to human life.
He called on the oil company to stop devastating the environment, saying the youths needed urgent clean up exercise of the oil spill in the area.

He added that the alleged fresh oil spill had caused hardship to the four core oil communities in the area and called on National Oil Spills Detection and Response Agency, NOSDRA, to come to their aid.

According to him, the livelihood of people of the area had collapsed due to incessant oil spills.

“We are calling on NOSDRA to hold ExxonMobil operating within its territory to clean up the communities degraded by the corporation’s incessant oil spills.
“And also ensure that its pays compensation to defray losses suffered by thousands of victims in the coastal areas,”
  he said.

Ebong appealed to ExxonMobil to heed the alarm the youths had raised over the health hazards associated with the spillage, disruption of business and loss of means of livelihood by its members in the coastal and riverine communities.
As at the time of this report, ExxonMobil has been under lock and key for two days and their staff remained at home

Roman Abramovich has led a $30 million investment round in Israeli start-up Music Messenger, which provides an app allowing music to be messaged to friends. Abramovich invested $15 million in the round, which was carried out at a company valuation of $100 million. Besides Abramovich, several well-known people in the global music industry, who also took part in the company's previous round, participated in the current round, among them David Guetta, Nicki Minaj, Tiesto, will.i.am, and Gee Roberson (formerly chairman of Geffen Records). The investment round was first reported by "Globes" in February this year.

Oded Kobo hit the international headlines recently when he told

"Forbes," “We aim to improve the way music is shared. If we can make it as easy to message a song as it is to text message, then the possibilities are staggering."

Kobo founded Music Messenger in 2014 with Shai Azran, David Strauss, and Uzi Refaeli. This will be the company's second financing round after it raised $5 million last August at a valuation of $25 million.
Strauss said in a recent interview,

"It's really cool that so many celebrities that have never before worked with an Israeli company are determined to invest. We're happy that the music industry and Israeli high-tech are finally cooperating."

Music Messenger does not store music in its servers but allows users to send songs that they have previously downloaded to their smartphone or alternatively to share music from the company's library, which is an aggregate of libraries like YouTube or SoundCloud, Yahoo and others.

This is not Kobo's first Internet start-up success. In September 2014, he sold Pheed to Moshe Hogeg's Mobli for an estimated $20-40 million. Pheed developed a mobile social network, which gained five million users with a pioneering concept of content monetization.

Fresh details have emerged on Monday on how the presidential election was won and lost.
It was gathered from a PDP chieftain   that   his   party and the APC   devised fresh methods on   how to outwit each other three months before the March 28 elections.
The source, who is a member of the PDP NWC, said a key component of his party’s strategy centered on the Permanent Voter Cards.

He said,
“The whole thing started in January when we observed that the PVC distribution was skewed. Already, we knew that President Jonathan would not win any state in the North-West which is the biggest geopolitical zone in the country because it has seven states.
“We in the PDP decided to focus on Lagos and other states in the South but the APC connived with the Independent National Electoral Commission when the distribution of PVCs was moved to the local government headquarters.

“APC leaders were allowed to collect PVCs on behalf of their members while the distribution of PVCs in Igbo-dominated areas was frustrated in Lagos. We in turn quickly sponsored some protests in Lagos but by the time the cards arrived, the time was too short for all of them (cards) to be distributed.”
He claimed that when the Presidency realised that the PVC distribution was favouring the   APC,

“a series of meetings was held and it was decided that Prof. Femi Mimiko, the younger brother of the Ondo State Governor, Olusegun Mimiko, should be made the INEC chairman while Prof. Attahiru Jega would be asked to go on terminal leave.”

The   source   however said that Jonathan was not ‘brave’ enough to implement the idea because he jettisoned it when some northern elements in the PDP leaked the information to the APC.
The source said,

“There were some northern elements in the party that were always giving the APC information whenever we ended our meetings. We then conspired to postpone the elections.”

He said the postponement of the polls   from February 14 was to ensure that the PVCs or the card readers were not used.
The source added,

“We (PDP) spent a considerable amount of money trying to convince Nigerians to reject their usage.
“We decided to use the newspaper adverts and protests by the Oodua Peoples Congress and the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra to enlighten people of the ‘danger’ of using the PVCs or   card readers but the APC, which has a strong media base was able to twist the issue to its favour.

“The PDP Governors’ Forum also met with civil society groups in Lagos and gave out money to the groups to continue to hold protests in various parts of the country but these people were not given adequate media coverage.”

The source stated that even on March 28, efforts were made to manipulate the results of the polls.
The source said it was curious that card readers worked ‘perfectly well’ in the North but poorly in the South where even the President could not get accredited through the device.

He said,
“The truth is that we all plotted our strategies to win the elections but the APC did a better job and I have to congratulate them.
“We knew that our plot could only work well where the APC is not considered strong but we did not expect huge figures from the North.

“The APC got 1.9 million votes in Kano State with little or no voided votes. How could that have been possible? The APC also got millions of votes in Kaduna and Kastina states; so we responded by ensuring that the figures in Rivers State rose to 1.4 million. In reality, less than 700,000 people voted in that state due to violence.

“When we saw what was happening, we reached out to governors in the South-South to try all they could to delay the collation of results in their respective states until all the northern states had been announced.
“However, it was only Delta State that succeeded and that was why the results were announced the following day and Jonathan got about 1.2 million votes.”

INEC in Lagos had in a statement by its Head, Public Affairs,   Femi Akinbiyi, denied allegation that it deliberately deprived non-indigenes of their PVCs or giving preference to APC members.
The commission, however, admitted that two of its officials were sacked for denying non-indigenes their PVCs in February.

Meanwhile, The All Progressives Congress has won the rescheduled Edo State House of Assembly election for Orhionmwon Constituency II.

Even when dads are super hot and super famous, they're still dads!
David Beckham proved that on Friday when he hilariously photobombed (Insta-bombed?) his son's video on Instagram to remind him who's top dog.

Brooklyn Beckham, 16, took to Instagram on Friday to celebrate two things: His mom Victoria Beckham's 41st birthday, and his momentous achievement of gaining one million followers on the social media network.
"So it's my mum's birthday today," he begins the video.

"We're leaving!" you can hear his dad shout in the background.
"K," Brooklyn responds, then continues, "I just reached a million followers-"
"I've got 52!" dad interjects, popping up over his shoulder.
Brooklyn looks despondent for a moment before muttering "wow" and ending the video. He tagged it with #ismydadcoolerthanme.

It's actually a pretty significant accomplishment for the 16-year-old -- just over a month ago, he was celebrating making it to half a million followers.
Brooklyn posts totally normal teenager stuff, like pics with his godfather (who just happens to be Elton John)...

...and photos from his part-time job (which just happens to be modeling and running his own fashion line, Reserved)...
...and shots with his cousin from a family vacation (which just happened to be at Coachella).
You know. Kid stuff.
This wasn't his first time being embarrassed by his dad on social media, either -- check out David Beckham's super-sweet birthday message to his son.

He's also not the only one following in his parents' fashion footsteps. Watch sister Harper wow at the Burberry fashion show:

PHOTOS: 12 Popular Nigerians Spotted Doing The Unusual
You can call it a publicity stunt for the campaign of her husband, General Muhammadu Buhari, but our First-Lady-to-be daring attitude got everyone’s attention when she was spotted helping a woman to fry akara (bean-cake) by the roadside in Abuja, about one month ago.

It is true that so much is expected from Nigerian celebrities, politicians and other popular people. However, this article is intended to show that they are indeed humans, just like every other person on the street.
No matter how comported these famous Nigerians have proven to be, a good number of them will just not mind letting down their guards when they found themselves in public. These ‘good number’ of popular Nigerians are the ones who will take the opportunity of being outside in public to eat, to buy or to do what they will naturally not be found doing.
While some these ‘daring’ popular personalities get lucky due to the fact that they did not get caught on camera, some were absolutely not so lucky, as every bit of their ‘unexpected’ public act got caught up on the camera. Well, it does not look like they care in any way.

Amid the xenophobic attacks in South Africa directed at foreigners, another Nigerian has reportedly been targeted in Johannesburg.
This post written by a Nigerian living in South Africa has recently appeared on Facebook. It contains the terrifying details of how a Nigerian has been attacked.
See the original of the message below:

Xenophobia: Another Nigerian Attacked In South Africa
With the crisis escalating, Muhammadu Buhari, the president-elect, commended President Goodluck Jonathan over the steps taken by his government to protect Nigerians from the violence in South Africa.

In a statement dating back to April 16, Thursday, Buhari said that Nigeria’s Head of Mission in Pretoria had taken the right steps by advising the Nigerian community in South Africa to close their shops, stay home and keep out of trouble, Premium Times reports.

“We equally understand that the South African government is making efforts to bring an end to this unfortunate situation. In the meantime, Nigerians in South Africa should abide by the words of caution extended them by their government representative in Pretoria.”

Regarding the effort by the Federal Government, the APC politician said:
“I am happy to see that the Nigerian government is very well aware of its responsibilities to its citizens in South Africa.”

Aggression towards the immigrants in South Africa was apparently triggered by King Goodwill Zwelithini who last month said that foreigners must pack up and leave the country.

Numerous African countries have started evacuating their nationals. The main reason for this year’s violence is believed to root in the poor economic state and the high level of youth unemployment in South Africa.
